URL shortening on the Opera Mini
URL shortening services allow you to shorten urls that will have eventually taken a lot of keystrokes to enter, into a short version that can easily be shared via SMS or microblogging services like Twitter.
Configuring your Opera Mini browser to shorten urls easily is trivial. I will be configuring the Is.gd URL shortening service (others can be done likewise). On launching the Opera Mini, there’s usually a drop down list with several search services configured. Click the drop down list which then brings up the list of search services that have been configured. Activate the Manage menu optiom (usually on the left soft button) and select Add. Under title, you can write: Is.gd URL Shortening. For address, enter http://is.gd/api.php?longurl=%s. Click save and you’re done. If you like favicons, you can click the “Fetch title and icon…” link before saving. You’ll have to re-edit the title afterwards. To use it, simply select it from the list and enter the url to shorten and click Ok.
